THE LIES OF BUSYNESS Part 1: My Busyness Pleases God How Are You? BUSY! Our World Worships Busyness Ps 39:6 Man is a mere phantom as he goes to and fro: He bustles about, but only in vain; he heaps up wealth, not knowing who will get it. The last thing I want is for most of my life to be pointless in the scope of eternity, but the truth is that much of my busy rushing is pretty pointless. “Beware the barrenness of a busy life.” ~ Socrates Problems with Busyness Busyness confuses doing more things with doing the right things. -PR 19:21 “Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” -Busyness that burns through your days without any purpose does not please God. Busyness inhibits my ability to minister to others effectively. -If you pile activity and achievements onto your life in a hunger for outside approval or finding purpose, you will never be satisfied. -2 Problems: 1) Fill your time leaving you no energy or space to step in to help others. 2)You will never satisfy the approval monster! -So, if our busyness is linked to seeking outward approval, what does God actually require of us? See Micah 6:8. Busyness hurts me spiritually. -Life is odd sometimes, that we have this daily intersection of the ordinary and extraordinary, sometimes all before lunch! -A season for everything. (ECC 3) -Beware the “Crazy Zone.” -Don’t get so busy that you forget who you are. (MT 16:24-26) You don’t please God by carrying the weight of the world on your shoulders. You please God by your life’s worship in obedience to Him. Time Exercise: My Values VS. My Calendar What if we began to build our busyness more around what our values are instead of letting the world dictate what we should do? Ask yourself: Does God really want me to be doing all of this? -God is already pleased with you, so why worship busyness?
